This is shot no. 25 in the Literary Series. Only 5 more shots left in the series! Today’s shot was inspired by Langston Hughes’s poem “The Cat and the Saxophone (2 A.M.),” which is just one of his many jazz poems. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find an official copy to link to.

Shot Specs:
1/13 sec @ f/4, 30mm, ISO 200, Canon 480 EXII @ 1/64

How I did it: This saxophone is standing in its case, which provides the red shag backdrop. My strobe is behind the sax on the bottom of the case, angled up and slightly toward the sax, causing it to illuminate the bell a bit through one of its pads, which is mostly open. I didn’t do much in post with this one, other than tinting the highlights blue.
